CMA Red Carpet Review

The 50th Country Music Awards were November 2 in Nashville, and it turned out to be quite the talked about event. Carrie Underwood hosted with Brad Paisley and she had 10 outfits that each celebrating a part of CMA music history. They weren’t all winners, but it was an impressive idea to have a tribute honoring all that country music is and has had to offer. Her red carpet dress by Michael Cinco was my favorite, which was yours?

Other favorites of mine were Little Big Town, Raelynn and Kelsea Ballerini.

Kacey Musgraves, Reba, Jennifer Nettles and Martina McBride performed together, and I liked these dresses a lot better than the ones they wore on the red carpet, (see below) though Jennifer Nettles red carpet dress had better color than the fringe minidress she wore on stage.

I loved Bily Ray Cyrus’s accessorized suit, Hunter Hayes fitted navy suit and Tim McGraw’s sleek attire finished off with the cowboy hat.

And of course, Beyonce performed at the event. She wore a Zuhair Murad couture gown. There’s been so much uproar about her performing, but I think its fine that she did. The song is country, and the CMA event has been inviting pop musicians to the event for the last few years. Ariana Grande, Justin Timberlake and Meghan Trainor to name a few. If they are going to invite anyone it should be Beyonce, at least she actually had a country song of her own to sing.

Unfortunately, there were some major fashion nightmares on the red carpet. Kacey Musgraves purple ruffled gown was just awful. It reminded me of a marshmallow peep chick. The skirt looks so heavy and wide, and it just keeps going.

Hayley Orrantia also went with easter pastel I’m not sure why. I guess she also hadn’t heard about Vogue declaring that cleavage is out.

Nicole Kidman wore custom Gucci, and while the pleated skirt and sleeves are fine, it got lost in translation to the noise of that red collar and matching belted waistline, complete with brooch-like buttons and ruffles. This gown just ended up looking dated and boring.

Elle King looks like she going running with the bulls. Frankly, those pants look like a lampshade.

Miranda Lamberts dress by George Hobeika was less than impressive, that asymmetrical hem is beyond irritating. The shoes don’t match, and I don’t understand why the bodice is sheer and lace. It’s like the lace is acting as pasties.

However the worst dress is this hot pink mess. This lack of symmetry throughout the whole gown is a disaster. One shoulder has a strap, the other doesn’t. One part of her barely covered chest being covered makes the dress looks lopsided and like she walked through a storm to get to the CMAs. And then, not even keeping with symmetry at all and having just one fabric heavy side on the dress, the skirt has nothing but a little strip, and then the other side has a billowing train. I don’t even want to know what the back look likes. Its unfinished and sloppy. I feel bad for this girl that someone told her it was a good choice, because it truly is a fashion nightmare.
